Catarina Fake Flickr.com Co-Founder Caterina Fake is the Co-Founder of Flickr.com, considered one of the leading photo sharing and management applications. She is a long-time participant and creator of online communities and social software. Caterina's deep understanding of online community, blogs and the collaborative web has helped launch Flickr.com into the photo-sharing juggernaut of the Web 2.0! Caterina worked as Creative Director of Yellowball, an online space, which enables people to create stories and animations collaboratively. Yellowball was originally developed at Interval Research, where Caterina was employed as a Member of the Research Staff. Prior to Interval, she was an Art Director at Salon.com, where she won numerous design and content awards including Time Magazine's Best Site of the Year and three consecutive Webby Awards. Caterina's work has been recognized by Print Magazine, Communication Arts, The Web Design Annual 2003 in Japan, and appears in Taschen's 1000 Favourite Web Sites. She started her career as a Lead Designer at Organic Online, a top web development agency, where she worked on web sites for Fortune 500 companies such as McDonald's, Kimberly-Clark, Colgate-Palmolive, Levi's and Nike - many of them their first online ventures. Enamoured with the possibilities of the Internet as a social medium, Caterina has built and managed many online communities including forums at Netscape and Howard Rheingold's Electric Minds, created several webzines, and publishes a daily weblog. She also shows her sculpture and installation work, publishes her fiction and poetry and last read her work at the Vancouver International Writers' Festival.
