Hubert Burda Media is a global media company. In addition to its long-standing magazine and newspaper core publishing competencies, the company is active in radio, television production, online and wireless services and direct marketing.
The group publishes almost 250 magazines worldwide with more than 70 titles in its home market, Germany. The company has been particularly successful in the areas of fashion (Elle, Amica, Freundin), lifestyle and entertainment (Bunte, InStyle), home and gardening (Das Haus, Mein Schöner Garten), consumer electronics (CHIP) and news publishing. In 1993, the news-magazine Focus was created and was widely viewed as the most successful launch of a new magazine.
The company was an early pioneer in the interactive electronic media market. Today, Hubert Burda Media is a major supplier of German language content on the Internet with Tomorrow Focus, one of Germany´s largest general interest Internet portals.
Hubert Burda is President of the Association of German Magazine Publishers (VDZ) and Co-Founder of the European Publishers Council (EPC).
Hubert Burda is active in supporting educational projects. He is Chairman of the Council of the "Ludwig-Maximilians-University", Munich, and founded the "Hubert Burda Center for Innovative Communications" at the Ben-Gurion University in Beer Sheva, Israel.
The "Academy for the Third Millennium", which was created by Hubert Burda, sponsors an exchange of knowledge on futuristic trends. Recently the Academy initiated the "Iconic Turn" lecture series, devoted to examining how images - photography, mass media and computer technology - impact culture, society and science.
Through Burda´s active involvement in "Partners in Tolerance", Hubert Burda supports Steven Spielberg's Shoah Foundation. Burda initiated a German partnership of media companies that produced a CD-ROM, detailing eyewitness accounts from Holocaust survivors in English and German. In October 1999 he received the "Interfaith Gold Medallion" from the International Council of Christians and Jews for his services to German-Jewish reconciliation.
